Girls’ swimming team moves to 2-0 with impressive...
Despite having only 13 of their 26 swimmers at the meet, the FA girls’ swimming team moved to 2-0 last Friday night with a 96-82 win over a much-deeper John Bapst squad. The Ponies’ only path to victory was to win nearly every event, and they did just that, capturing first place in the first 11 events before coming within 0.33 seconds of making it a clean sweep in the evening’s final race. Julia...

In their first official meet of the season, the Foxcroft Academy girls’ swimming team rolled to a 118-51 win over Brewer on Friday evening. Freshman Julia Annis (pictured above) had a marvelous debut for the Ponies, setting the school record in the 100-yard Breaststroke (her time of 1:13.59 topped Marley Clark’s 2008 time of 1:16.10) and winning the 100 Freestyle by 20 seconds. Annis...

Ponies put up a fight but fade in second half
The Ponies hung with Ellsworth, a team that figures to finish near the top of the Class B standings, for two quarters on Saturday night, trailing just 30-27 at the break. But Ellsworth’s defensive pressure (22 turnover forced) and ruthless offensive efficiency (57 percent shooting and a 12:8 assist-to-turnover ratio) eventually proved to be too much, and the Eagles outscored the Ponies...

Upstart Ponies handle Ellsworth on the road, move...
Amber Anderson (pictured above) scored 8 of her 16 points in a fourth quarter that saw the Ponies turn a nip-and-tuck game into a comfortable 60-44 win at Ellsworth on Thursday night. The Ponies clung to a 36-34 lead after three quarters, but in the final frame they were able to solve an Eagles’ full-court press that had given them trouble all night. Mackenzie Coiley was brilliant...

Ponies stun MDI in season opener
The dynamic duo of Mackenzie Coiley and Hilary Kendall combined for 48 points to lead Foxcroft Academy to a very impressive 58-53 win over MDI, a perennial powerhouse at the Class B level. Few gave the Ponies, who are coming off an 8-11 season in Class C, a shot against the Trojans, who finished 14-5 last year. But new head coach Michelle Paradis and her gutsy squad had other ideas, and the...

Ponies drop opener to MDI
The boys’ basketball team lost 63-29 to a very good MDI team on Monday night. The Trojans, who look to be one of the favorites in Class B this year, used superior size and relentless defensive pressure to force 20 turnovers and hold the Ponies to 18 percent shooting from the floor. MDI shot 54 percent and outrebounded Foxcroft 38-24. The Ponies kept the game close for a quarter (trailing...
